We advocate, influence, build & share knowledge to tackle inequality. Our programs include the Mimili Family Wellbeing Centre, financial counselling & capability, No Interest Loans and energy efficiency education.

Our advocacy work on unconscionable mobile phone sales to Indigenous clients led directly to the imposition of Australia's second-largest corporate fine. This is our first project in the area of small business support, and an opportunity for you to make your mark with your finely honed skills.

The Small Business Mentor should have:

● Experience in all aspects of setting up and/or running small businesses or cooperatives

● Demonstrated experience mentoring/coaching others to establish or run businesses

● Ability to work within a community development framework

● Outstanding relationship management/diplomacy skills and the ability to navigate challenging environments

● Experience working in remote Aboriginal communities and understanding of Aboriginal culture

● Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills.

● Ability to access small business connections and industry expertise

Details of your role:

The Small business Mentor will provide intensive one to one support to the client over a three month period, working at the client’s pace. 

This will involve:

● Developing a detailed project plan addressing project implementation, reporting and evaluation

● Exploring the client’s understanding of and motivation for going into business

● Identifying any skill gaps and developing a mentoring plan for the client to address those gaps

● Thinking through and testing the realities of running a business

● Understanding, planning for and managing the administrative, legal and marketing aspects of business

● Understanding and testing the commercial viability of the business

● Linking the client to peers and funding sources who can provide   advice/support re business

● Guiding the client to commence trading if they so choose

● Attractive remuneration $94,748 per annum pro-rata (inc leave loading) plus super
