About You

To be considered for this position you must have demonstrable experience in education and training, with a portion of your experience ideally spent working with Indigenous/Aboriginal communities (within Australia or overseas).

As you will be provided with relevant training in the energy efficiency sector, any experience in this space will be considered desirable, but not essential.

The successful candidate will be creative in their approach to engaging the community, with the ability to adapt to a variety of individuals and situations.

As a mentor/trainer for local Aboriginal people with varying levels of numeracy/literacy skills, employment experience and English proficiency, your ability to work with the community to cultivate meaningful, value-laden, and culturally appropriate relationships with the workers you recruit, mentor and strive to retain, will be of paramount importance.

Strategic in thought and creative in execution, your ability to move away from a one-size-fits all approach will be key as you continuously develop ways to garner community support and buy-in to the Future Sustainability Education Project, paving the way for the successful recruitment and retention of local workers.

Over and above delivering professional training, you will adopt a holistic approach to your work, helping guide the development of long-term skills and social wellbeing for the workers you recruit. You will bring an open-minded, community-focused approach to training/mentoring, with an ability to adapt to any changes or unforeseen issues that may occur.

Most importantly, you'll be highly empathetic and culturally competent; able to understand the needs and concerns of the communities and people you work with. You'll have the communication and interpersonal skills needed to navigate complex situations and adapt your approach to each individual.

Please Note: This position requires frequent travel via 4WD vehicle from Alice Springs to APY lands, spending significant periods living away from home. To be eligible for consideration, you must hold a current manual Driver's License and be able to drive 4WD vehicles independently on remote roads. Employment will also be subject to a National Police Clearance and Working with Children check.

About the Benefits

This is an incredible opportunity to help local Anangu workers gain valuable long-term skills and professional experience, in support of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will receive an attractive remuneration circa $84,445 - $88,275 plus super and salary sacrificing options, and a GREAT range of additional benefits to help you enjoy life within the local community including:

  • Relocation Assistance;
  • 6 weeks annual leave;
  • Employee Assistance Program;
  • Remote travel allowance;
  • $500 annual wellbeing payment;
  • 5 days mandated annual breaks (mini-break);
  • Training/education opportunities; and
  • External professional supervision and support if needed.

You will also be welcomed into a friendly and passionate team, with comprehensive support from colleagues and management, and ongoing opportunities for career development and advancement.

Alice Springs and the APY Lands

In addition to its rich history and diverse cultural heritage, you can explore the local sports teams, photography, camping, hiking, motor sports, desert-racing and more, whilst benefiting from the relaxed country atmosphere, fantastic weather and internationally-renowned environment.

The Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yunkunytjatjara (APY) Lands covers over 103,000 square kilometres of remote South Australia, near the tri-state border. Home to around 3000 people of Aboriginal descent over seven main communities and seventeen homelands, the land was returned to the traditional owners in 1981.The area itself is a vital part of Aboriginal desert culture, with many people there identifying the history and basic laws of human existence as largely being written in the land.
